We are a group of farmers in Cumbria who have formed The Cumbria Farmer Network, as a farmer owned not-for-profit company, limited by guarantee.

 

What we do:

 

Lake District DVD / Videos and Farm Walks

1. Produce and sell a series of Lake District DVDs and videos about farm life in the Lake District through the seasons, called " Behind the Scenery". These DVDs are available to buy online or order from our office.
2. Organise farm walks in the Lake District and Eden Valley for the general public and schools

Services for Cumbria Farmer Network Members

1. Help members recycle plastic at a reasonable cost
2. Coordinate group carcase collections for lambing
3. Carry out livestock transport tests locally for groups at cost
4. Train young people to enter farming as farm assistants
5. Get funding for groups – currently for research, to improve efficiency and find/develop new markets
6. Organise meetings to inform farmers of new practices
7. Inform members about cheap inputs, funding and advice

 

The work is directed and delivered by farmers, with professional support. We have over 450 members who are working together to improve profits.  

 

Our aims are to:

 

1. maintain and develop a viable farming community
2. maximise rural income via food production & other activity
3. support, inform and educate
4. raise the profile of Cumbrian farming
