Animal ID regulations – what’s it worth to you?

The NFU have organised the following events in Cumbria -

These seminars have been limited to 20 per event therefore booking is essential. To reserve your place or to find out more information then please contact Adam Briggs on 01695 554 912.These promise to be popular seminars so early booking is recommended.

Many livestock farmers have been counting the cost of missing tags and incomplete records following the introduction of the Single Payment Scheme. In the past farmers may have been issued warning letters or landed with a fine if they had fallen foul of the requirements regarding animal ID. The situation now is that farmers can face sizeable reductions to their income should they fall foul of the regulations. To put the size of the problem into context, of the 605 farmers checked against cattle ID requirements 61% failed while cattle and sheep ID breaches accounted for 75% of the total Cross Compliance breaches reported. Around 500 farmers were penalised and typically faced reductions in their payment of between 1% and 3%. With this in mind the NFU, together with EBLEX and the Dunbia group, have teamed up with the North West Food Alliance to organise a series of events which will spell out exactly what is required in terms of record keeping and offer some tips on how to avoid being penalised now and in the future. The meetings will outline what records are required, what licences are needed in different circumstances and how correct tag insertion can prevent losses which can lead to fines. Trading standards will also be in attendance to answer any questions from their perspective. The implications of incorrect animal ID within the processing sector will also be highlighted.
