This is the third in the series of at least 4 short films that will follow each of the seasons. It captures life on two farms in the Lake District.

Deepdale Hall at Patterdale is owned and Tilberthwaite Farm, Coniston, once a Beatrix Potter farm, is rented from the National Trust. The films show actual families and events which are not specially staged for the film. Purchase of this DVD helps to sustain the Cumbrian landscape by allowing our not-for-profit company to support the guardians of the Lake District – the local farmers.

At Patterdale we see sheep being gathered off the high fells and shorn by local contractors, watch silage making and enjoy seeing new life, with calves, sheepdog pups and chickens all arriving. Jimmy shows us a sheep tick at close quarters and we see some Herdwick wool products used and for sale at the farm.

Dorothy Wilkinson at Coniston regularly helps on the farm and is passionate about the herdwick sheep they keep. In this edition we see lambs being weaned off their mothers, silage made, bales being wrapped and calves being fed. We enjoy watching hand clipping, Cumberland and Westmorland Wrestling at Coniston Show and see some magnificent wildlife, with nesting swallows, red deer and many wild flowers.

The film gives an insight into the life of modern day shepherds in this beautiful part of England and how their lives and the local community are an integral part of sustaining this beautiful but fragile landscape.

Special thanks in making this video to the Brown and Wilkinson families who have given up much free time in making this first diary.
