The Cumbria Farmer Network encourages its farmer members to open their doors to the public to explain what they do, so that people understand the important role they have. We also produce a series of Lake District farming DVD / Video diaries for sale that are targeted at the general public, to give an insight into the lives of farmers working in the Lake District.

Cumbria as a county is one of the most beautiful parts of England. It is a county of contrasts, from the high mountains or fells of the Lake District to the rich pastures of the Eden Valley, Solway coast and Hadrian’s Wall.
The landscape and wildlife in the county is entirely a result of the influence of man. Without the strenuous efforts of generations of local farm families to manage the land, we would not enjoy efficiently produced high quality local food and, at the same time the rich variety of wildlife and landscape.
Food is a basic need which farmers produce for us. As world population rises rapidly and global warming impacts on food miles, take time to think about the food you buy, its’ quality, where it comes from and the long term consequences.
Our local farmers are an integral part of the local culture and landscape, they have learned how to manage this corner of England over many generations.
They need your help to buy food produced from England and locally whenever possible to provide a realistic income for the food they produce and help to encourage future generations to work on the farm and help sustain the countryside as we know it.
